Purpose

We exist to build the knowledge, community, and tools that make this work possible.

Higher education is a key driver of upward mobility. But research shows that many young men are too often underachieving in college or are missing out entirely. This disengagement leaves a growing portion of men without a degree, without practical job skills, and without a sense of hope or purpose. Colleges and universities across the country are grappling with this challenge, yet many lack the dedicated infrastructure, expertise, or institutional support to design and sustain meaningful interventions. The Higher Education Male Achievement Collaborative (HEMAC) is uniquely positioned to fill that gap and ensure higher education remains a viable path to economic mobility for men—especially men from underprivileged backgrounds.

Leadership

A program based at the American Institute for Boys and Men, HEMAC was launched in November 2024 to build a nationwide network of college and university leaders who can work together to enhance male enrollment, belonging, and achievement on their campuses. In less than two years, HEMAC has brought on partners from 35 colleges and universities and nonprofit organizations.

Through a variety of programs (monthly virtual events, policy toolkits and resources, and an annual in-person convening), HEMAC encourages our partners to share valuable experiences and insights, and helps them apply lessons learned to address the variety of challenges facing male students on their campuses.
